HELPFUL HINT:
Do you have a UPS (battery backup) for your computer? If so, in a situation
where electricity becomes unavailable, shut down your computer as quickly as
possible to conserve the battery... You can use it to plug in your cell phone,
walkie-talkie, flashlight or other recharger to recharge these critical communications tools when necessary. Depending upon the size and charge of the UPS at the time
of the blackout, you may be able to recharge your cell phone several times
using this method.

Personal/Conference Communications
Skype(tm) provides computer users with point to point voice communications,
group conferences, phone to computer, computer to phone, etc. For coordination with other
Community Coordinators or with local Emergency Agencies where the agency can have all
coordinators 'on the line' simultaneously. The application is FREE, and there are versions
for virtually all computer types.

have available lightweight headsets for use with the application (Nominal Cost)). While these
are not required (your built-in or other microphone and speakers will work..) experience has
shown that a headset is preferable. Skype is the

NOTE: If you or your organization has a web site, and you need a way to
share other websites that contain emergency information, etc. during
phone conference (or just web tours of such web sites), the utility below
may be useful. (We use it to demonstrate various aspects of the EMCOM
system.
You might use it to direct neighbors, community, etc. to web pages with
critical emergency information/new required during an emergency (i.e.
Emergency Victim Locator, etc.), or create a 'tour' of emergency related
websites in your community, and leave the tour looping so that visitors
can join the tour at any time.
